A successful year in 2015 of ticking off hills not too far from the A9 and M74 on my trips to and from Yorkshire as new hills in north-west Scotland become harder to find. Still a few gems up my sleeve, waiting for that perfect weather window that is always only tomorrow away.
Despite van problems, a backpacking trip to Knoydart from Kinlochhourn delivered a happy day on Ladhar Bheinn with Emily. Local venison, potatoes and onions on the camping stove tasted divine.
The usual thanks to Alan Holmes for organising an enjoyable annual dinner and associated boat trips. Cruach Scarba was an enjoyable walk, both in terms of location and company.
We took to the tandem in September and headed for Mull, Iona, Ulva and Gometra. Cycle bagging is a great way to relax and pick off the smaller hills, even if you cannot bag as many in a day. Ulva was a special place to stay overnight. Gometra takes the wee gem award for 2015.
An excellent two-week December holiday to Snowdonia, Lleyn peninsula and Anglesey pushed the total along nicely and number 1100 was the lovely mountain of Yr Eifl. Mynydd Anelog was also a highlight for its views of Bardsey island, which eluded us on this trip. The holiday was topped off with an overnight stay in the lamp room at Great Orme lighthouse and, of course, bagging Great Orme at dusk.
As always, I look forward to meeting RHB enthusiasts as you pass through Torridon Youth Hostel in 2016.
