Friday 6 June, 7-10pm. Barbecue at 39 Garth Road, Builth Wells, Powys, LD2 3AR (SO037510): a chance for everyone to get together over a burger and a beer. Telephone 01982 553068 or 07936 170691, or email iaind.brown@yahoo.co.uk
Saturday 7 June, 7 for 7.30pm. Annual dinner at the Greyhound Hotel, Garth Road, Builth Wells (SO038510). £15 per head. Please make cheques payable to Mr I D Brown. The proposed three-course menu includes a main course of Welsh lamb, but please let me (Iain) know if you prefer the vegetarian option.
The Greyhound Hotel (01982 553255) is offering a reduced rate for B&B of £50 for a double room, £35 single room, though there are only two of each available. Please mention Marilyn or Iain when booking. There are many other B&B establishments in Builth Wells but it can get busy over a June weekend, so early booking is sensible. B&Bs closest to the Greyhound Hotel include Bron Wye (01982 553210), The Hollies (553587) and the Llanfair Hotel (553253). However, Builth Wells is a compact town and everywhere is within easy walking distance.
I have arranged camping at the Riverside Community Centre in Hay Road (SO044511) for £5 per person per night. Please book your pitch in advance with me. The 'official town campsite' at White House Farm is situated next door but is much more expensive. There are no hostels near to Builth Wells.
A record attendance of 56, including 15 debutants aged from 25 (Tony Jenkins) to 81 (Miles Hutchinson) enjoyed an excellent dinner and entertainment, fabulous summer weather and far-from-fabulous summer flies. Badges, awards and trophies were presented for carefully devised spurious reasons. In order for Marhofn to be eligible for a 'club' bank account, Lloyds TSB stipulated that officials be elected and proceedings be minuted. The following officers were therefore duly elected:
Chairman: Jonathan Woods
Secretary: Alan Dawson
Treasurer: Bert Barnett
Chief Chanter: Lindsay Munro
The Marhofn bank account was finally opened in February, with a deposit of £400 comprising donations received since we splashed out on Marhofn 171. A copy of the official minutes is available in the files area of the RHB newsgroup. Really.

No big adventures this year, but the St Kilda outliers trip is provisionally planned for Autumn 2009, assuming I can find a boatman, Before that, I intend to make a recce day trip from Harris and attempt to establish contact with the NTS warden. Also, I'm hoping to set up a steering committee early next year to help me with the planning.
Anyone who thinks they can scale the heights of any of the high points in the archipelago please get in touch (brent.lynam@btinternet.com). Beyond 2009, I'm keen to arrange trips to the Faroes and the west of Ireland.
