Baglog: Gordon Ingall (+55=980)

Another good year, although fewer new hills, with no easy bags in Wales or England to boost the total. Managed a long-awaited day on Mickle Fell over the spring bank holiday after years of prevarication. The nearby hills left me with only Windy Gyle to complete the English and Welsh Hewitts.

Scottish trips aimed at Grahams took me into some grand remote areas. A recurring theme seemed to be passing over bealachs through higher hills then returning over Munros. An attempt on Carn na Breabag via Morvich failed near the Falls of Glomach; the falls were magnificent but the river crossing wasn't, so I ended up on A'Ghlas-bheinn, 31 years after my first ascent, with not a soul about. As usual the lower hills gave some of the best days - a much-anticipated day on Sgurr na Stri above Coruisk was the best, with fantastic views all around from what must be one of the finest situations in the country.

I even had some company on the local hills this year, with a new route up my most visited hill, Coniston Old Man. Even Wainwright hadn't thought of Dave Hewitt's variation.
