No new summits were discovered in 2002, and there were no deletions, so the Marilyn total remains 1552, but there were two changes to trouble the conscience of dedicated baggers:
Carn na Coinnich (12A, LR26) has been joined on 673m by Meall nan Damh at NH353522 (source: OS 1:10000 map 1992). This is not an easy pair, as they are about 4km apart, with four other tops in between, including 671m Meall a'Bhogair Mor. Meall nan Damh is shown as Meall nan mh on some older Landrangers. Following the precedent set by the Corra-bheinn / Cruachan Dearg pair on Mull, Carn na Coinnich remains the Marilyn by virtue of its trig pillar.
The top of Beinn Bhreac on Skye (17B, LR32) has moved from 445m at NG343267 to 448m at NG344267 (source: OS Explorer 411). Thanks to Graham Bunn for this discovery. In an amazing frenzy of precision, Ex411 shows no fewer than 13 spot heights within the 400m contour on Beinn Bhreac, although numerous other Marilyns (including some Munros) still have no summit height shown on the latest OS maps.
