I returned to Great Orme in the summer and climbed it the proper way this time; I travelled by train to Llandudno and walked from there.
Quite often October can bring surprises, such as days warmer than in August. There was a misty dawn start from Inveraray hostel on 16 October, but what a start to the day - just before coming in sight of Loch Awe, the mist parted and a magical scene unfolded, with Kilchurn Castle and Beinn a'Buiridh reflected in blue water. The higher we went on Beinn a'Buiridh the warmer it got, and there were shepherds out on the slopes, making the most of the fine weather.

The day was to end even better than it started, on an easy summit south of Oban, where we were just in time to see the sun drift toward the horizon. A perfect day!
