I had the good fortune to be invited to a wedding on Barra in May and took the opportunity to bag a few Marilyns. On the morning of the wedding I made the easy ascents of Ben Tangabhal and Heaval above Castlebay. On the way down off Heaval I met a man with a dog, and we had a pleasant chat.
Ten weeks later I am descending the rarely-visited Beinn Stumanadh (16C) when I spy a man and a dog just above the deer fence in the north corrie, so I make my way towards them. 'I know you' he says, 'Outer Hebrides, a couple of months ago'. It transpired he was fellow HoF member, Ron Turner.
Two days later, on my way up Meallan a'Chuaill (16E), who should I meet coming down but Ron Turner and his dog. Coincidence, or am I being followed? After another enjoyable conversation we parted and I climbed the final 100 metres singing the Dame Vera Lynn classic, 'We'll meet again, don't know where etc'. See you soon, Ron.
