The main meeting for 2009 will take place in Strontian, Ardgour (18B) over the weekend of 5-7 June. All are welcome. The annual dinner will be held at the Ariundle Centre, 2km north of Strontian (NM8263 on sheet 40), at 7 for 7:30. The meeting is being organised by Jonathan Woods, so please contact him to reserve your place (and let him know if you have any special dietary requirements). There will be a varied menu, created from fresh produce. No deposit is required for the meal.
The whole bunkhouse at the Ariundle Centre, which sleeps 26, is reserved for our party for the Friday and Saturday evenings. Beds are £10 per night in eight-person dormitories and £12 per night in two and four bedded rooms. Rates includes bedding and use of the bunkhouse kitchen. Breakfast (and other meals) can also be purchased in the restaurant next door. To book a bed for the Friday and Saturday evenings, please contact Jonathan to confirm availability, and send him a cheque for the full amount. For additional nights, contact the Ariundle Centre directly, and mention that you are on the 'Marilyn Meet'. For further information see www.ariundle.co.uk or email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 01967 402279. The Strontian village campsite is Glenview Caravan and Camping Park, Strontian (01967 402123), and 13km miles west of Strontian is the Resipole Caravan and Camping Park (01967 431235).
For those who are short on time (and have deep pockets) why not take the sea-plane from Glasgow to Tobermory, then transfer to Strontian via Ardnamurchan Charters ferry service?
A boat trip to the island of Carna, (Cruachan Charna, 18C) has been arranged for Saturday 6 June, with Ardnamurchan Charters (West Scotland Marine), from Laga Bay. Departure time is about 9:30. There are 12 places available, at £5 per person. If more than 12 wish to go, a second crossing can be arranged, probably in the afternoon, going out when the first boat trip returns. To reserve a place on the boat, contact Jonathan to check availability and send him a cheque for £5. Alternatively, it is possible to hire a self-drive boat, to come and go when you please. Should anyone want to go on the Sunday, please let Jonathan know.
There are rumours of various exciting hill-bagging expeditions being planned, including a 600th and completion of all Marilyns outside St Kilda, but more of this when we meet up in Strontian. And you know what baggers are like - we all have plans of our own and go off and do whatever we want anyway (and rightly so).
The restaurant, bunkhouse and boat all have finite capacity, so please get in touch with Jonathan first to check availability before sending any cheques: phone 01324 832700 or email Jonathan.Woods@dsl.pipex.com. Send cheques (payable to 'Jonathan Woods') to 18 Castle View, Airth, Falkirk FK2 8GE.
