I'm full of admiration for all the exploits of the baggers who achieve so much each year whilst I am still slowly plodding along, edging my way out of the cellar. Two brief trips to mid-Wales enabled me to tidy up some sections, leaving only seven to go. Walking over The Begwyns and Gwaunceste Hill in warm early November sunshine was very pleasant. Still 15 English Marilyns left but they are rather spread out, including three in west Cumbria and Burnhope Seat. Realising that I wouldn't reach 400 without another visit to Jockland, I spent an enjoyable week in the Borders, bagging Winter Hill on the way north and Swinside on the way back. I am hoping to get into the Corridor in 2008. If so, could I stake a claim to becoming the slowest entrant? My first Marilyn was Black Combe in 1947. Working around family holidays, it took me 25 years to walk the whole of the north Cornwall footpath and a similar time to tick off all the Wainwrights. Entering the Hall of Fame might be possible by 2020 I suppose!
