What should have been a pleasant day-trip to Bardsey Island turned into a bit of a drama for some of our fellow passengers. Due to the low tide it was necessary for the 30 passengers to be ferried out to the boat in a small inflatable dinghy. As the first group of passengers were transferring to the boat, the unsecured dinghy pulled away from the side and a passenger, who was in mid stride, slipped between dinghy and boat into the sea. She was a non-swimmer but had been issued with a life jacket, which kept her afloat A chivalrous crew member jumped from the dinghy into the drink in order to effect a rescue, but his sudden leap caused the dinghy to overturn and its one remaining passenger to join the two others in the water. Eventually they were all able to scramble aboard the boat but were quite shocked, had sustained some minor injuries and were drenched. The couple who were passengers were celebrating his sixtieth birthday. They were both given dry clothes by others in their party, and although still shocked, he was able to raise a laugh by saying that he was better dressed going back than when he had set out in the morning.
