The Thrill of Misadventure:

Brown Muir (9A)

I'm sure that there is a good way to do this hill, because I found a Land Rover track leading down from the summit, but it was not on my map. I went up from Millbuies Country Park along a set of tracks and up through some heather. Except the tracks weren't: they were full of gorse bushes, deep muddy holes, rain-drenched, waist-deep grass and (extremely) frisky bullocks. It rained steadily all the way while thunder rumbled increasingly and unnervingly close as I struggled upwards. The burns had transformed into barely crossable raging torrents, and the heather higher up (knee deep, also drenched and also populated with frisky bullocks) was even more tedious than the tracks. The limited view was of a flat, boggy, heathery summit. To top it all, I got the route wrong on the way down, and had a prolonged and violent tussle with a dense and seemingly endless thicket of head-high (for me anyway) gorse. Ugh!
