Cellar Field:

Richard Newstead, G3CWI (266)

Radio-bagging via the 'Summits on the Air' (SOTA) award programme has gone from strength to strength. The English contingent managed 2500 summit trips in 2006, while the Welsh did 179 and the Scots had 315 trips. One person added 181 to their score in the year, which is pretty good going for a radio-bagger. It is amazing to hear radio amateurs earnestly discussing routes up Marilyns instead of the merits of this or that radio or aerial. We now have a team of French who are producing a comprehensive P150 list for France, which they hope to finish in the spring. My own modest total rose to 266, but at least I have now finished the Isle of Man. There remains a long period of obscurity ahead.
