High point number one: Stepping off the MFV Glorious in Girvan harbour after a successful but very bumpy and quite scary return crossing to Ailsa Craig. Thanks (in a way) to Brent Lynam for organising this trip. I'll be thinking very carefully indeed before crossing any more choppy seas, though - I'm not sure I'm really cut out for this sort of thing.
Low point: Fighting a particularly nasty pain in the chest half way up the Roaches whilst trying to be polite to a young Brummie lad who was admiring my dog. He must have thought I was a very strange person, with all that grinning and talking in groans. This event was the start of a long period of inactivity while the rest of Britain had a long, hot summer. I thought my walking days were finished - I could barely make it to the end of our street.
High point number two: Linton Hill (28B) let me climb it in December, in the middle of my cardiac rehabilitation. It was the nearest unticked Marilyn to chez Knipe, at just about 75 miles. I was so happy about walking up this hill that it's quite difficult to express it. This was an absolute joy. I'd like to bet that very few people have been as happy on this particular hill. All hail to the NHS - they've done a good job on my cardiac arteries.
And now - now, I seem to be permanently chuffed. It's ridiculous. I feel irrepressible. It must be really annoying for my pals. 2006 turned out quite well really, because a fortnight or so before the Roaches episode I was walking the Pennine Way, so I had a narrow escape. Now I'm almost fit again and with a long list of things I'd quite like to do in 2007.
