On The Threshold Of A Dream:

Tony Rogers, Grasmere (600)

My first Marilyn was Yr Eifl (30A), which I was taken up in 1950 at the age of nine. My 'waterproof' was my school raincoat. It was not waterproof and I got very wet, but this clearly did not put me off hillwalking. I completed the Munros in 1990, having done them over seven summers starting in 1984, though I have still to visit some Munro Tops. In 1991 I retired and started to lead walking holidays for Countrywide Holidays in the UK, and for Waymark Holidays abroad, mainly in Spain. This curtailed progress on the Corbetts for about ten years, so I have currently climbed 145 of them, plus 33 Grahams and 210 Munros for my second round. My 600th Marilyn (and 85th of the year) was Hail Storm Hill (36). I chose this hill for my 600th because it is the nearest one to Knowl Moor (419m) which I climbed many times when I was living at home in Bury in the late 1950s. This kept me fit for walking in the mountains of the Lake District, North Wales and Scotland.
